Ashkelon Bar Mitzvah Celebration

When a boy reaches Bar Mitzvah age, it is a very exciting time that most families like to celebrate with appropriate dignity. However, many families in Israel suffer from harsh financial situations and cannot fund a Bar Mitzvah celebration for their sons.

Vision for Israel has joined forces with the Ashkelon social services in an annual Bar Mitzvah celebration project they hold for boys who come from low-income families. The project provides a powerful experience for the boys and creates sweet memories they carry for many years.

This year, the program included enriching experiences through which the boys learned, contributed, and integrated into the community, such as social and Torah reading workshops, volunteering in the community, a tour in Jerusalem, and more. The peak of the project was on the day of the celebration. The boys started the day by reading the Torah, followed by gathering in an event center for a special meal, entertainment, and dancing. At the end of the event, each child received a gift from Vision for Israel—a high-quality backpack.

The boys were happy and excited to receive the backpacks, and we were happy to bless them with a gift that will serve them in many ways.
