ISRAELIS SUBJECT TO SHABBAT ROCKET BARRAGE IN THE SOUTH: Israelis in southern communities spent their Shabbat under siege as Hamas terrorists fired more than 200 mortar shells and rockets at Israel from early morning throughout the day. Four Israelis were wounded when a rocket hit their home. Throughout Shabbat, sirens sounded in communities in the South as more than 100 rockets landed in open fields, 30 were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system and the rest fell in communities near the border. When the sirens go off, residents in the Gaza periphery have only 15 seconds to reach a shelter before impact. Public places were closed on Saturday 15 July 2018, but facilities including summer camps were open as usual on the following day and farmers allowed to return to their fields to work. In response to the rockets on Saturday, the Israeli military attacked dozen of targets in Gaza including two tunnels, weapons stores and a combat training facility. It was Israel’s largest bombing campaign in Gaza since the 2014 war, the military said. Two Palestinians killed during retaliatory air strikes by the Israeli military, however, most likely died in an “accidental blast” as they were making weapons, according to Palestinian police. Egypt and other international organizations rushed to broker a ceasefire. One of Israel’s main demands was the cessation of the kites and balloons, thousands of which have been flown over the border in the last few months, attached to incendiary devices that have caused damaging fires and destroyed tens of thousands of acres. Nevertheless more fires were ignited by kites sent over the border on Sunday morning. (Kehila News)
GREENBLATT TO HAMAS: TRY PEACE: Jason Greenblatt, USA President Donald Trump’s Special Representative for International Negotiations, on Sunday 16 July 2018 ripped Hamas in the wake of the recent escalation in the south. “Hamas has been orchestrating the weekly protests to distract from their complete governance failures. Rockets, riots and further violence will only bring more misery to the Palestinians in Gaza. Try peace - give your children and grandchildren a chance,” he tweeted. His comments came after Gaza terrorist groups fired more than 200 rockets at southern Israel during the Sabbath. On Saturday night, before the end of the Sabbath, four people, all members of one family, were injured by shrapnel after a rocket exploded inside the city of Sderot. Earlier, a rocket exploded near a synagogue in Sderot. At the same time, the IDF announced that it had attacked a high-rise building in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, which Hamas used as a training facility for fighting in built-up areas. A tunnel for underground fighting was discovered underneath the building. The USA envoy has repeatedly blasted Hamas for encouraging terrorist attacks against Israelis and building tunnels leading into Israeli territory instead of rehabilitating Gaza and improving the lives of its residents. (Arutz-7) It’s been said before and we’ll say it again: How tragic that Hamas has used billions of dollars of foreign aid money to build terrorist attack tunnels into Israel to buy and use weapons against the Jewish state, and to pad its leader’s pockets. So much could have been done to build up the suffering Gaza Strip society, to provide jobs, homes, schools, and so much more. Instead, Hamas continues to feed its men, women and children on hate and jihad. An entire population is starving on such a diet. Pray that Hamas will be overthrown and that others with a positive eye towards rebuilding the Gaza Strip and co-operating with Israel will be put in place.
KHAMENEI: ‘NO MIDEAST PEACE DEAL, ISRAEL WILL WITHER AWAY’: The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed that the USA would be unable to broker a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and that the Jewish state would ultimately disappear from the Middle East. Speaking at a meeting of Iran’s Hajj organization on Monday 16 July 2018, Khamenei addressed President Donald Trump’s ambitions to reach an historic accord between Israel and the PA. “To America’s dismay, the Palestinian cause will never be forgotten and al-Quds will remain the capital of Palestine,” said Khamenei. The Iranian leader chastised Muslim states which he said had yielded to American pressure regarding Israel. Late last month, a close aide to Khamenei warned that Iran was prepared for a war by proxy with the USA and Israel. “The Americans and the Zionists are the major threats that may wage a proxy war in the region,” said the official, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi. On Sunday 15 July 2018 explosions were reported outside of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo at an airbase used by Iranian forces deployed in Syria. The attacks, attributed to Israel, killed 22, including 9 Iranian soldiers, Arab media outlets claimed. Jerusalem has not confirmed that it was responsible for the airstrike, although Israel has been determined to keep Iran from establishing a foothold in Syria and especially on its northern borders with Syria. (Arutz-7) Continue to intercede for a regime change in Iran, also that the Islamic Republic will fail in all of its efforts to produce a nuclear weapon, or to establish a foothold in Syria. Pray also for the Iranian people who in large numbers do not agree with their government’s harsh Islamists policies or involvement with Syria, or support of terrorism, when their own people are suffering such financial hardships. Intercede also for the protection and growth of the Iranian church.
SEIZED ARCHIVE SHOWS IRAN NUKE PROJECT WAS LARGER THAN THOUGHT: The archive of Iranian nuclear documents seized by the Israeli Mossad from a Tehran warehouse in January 2018 shows that Iran’s program to build nuclear weapons “was almost certainly larger, more sophisticated and better organized” than was suspected, unnamed nuclear experts were quoted as saying in the New York Times on Sunday, 16 July 2018. This was after being shown selected documents from the trove by USA reporters. “It’s quite good,” Robert Kelley, a nuclear engineer and former inspector for the UN’s nuclear watchdog, said dryly, after being shown some of the documents. “The papers show these guys were working on nuclear bombs.” The documents also reinforce Israel’s contention that Iran remains determined to attain a nuclear weapons archive, despite its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, USA reporters noted. The materials they were shown include documentation that names current Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as a member of the “Council for Advanced Technologies” that approved the rogue nuclear weapons program and indicate “a supporting role by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as the Quds Force.” Previous documents indicate that the Iranian army was charged with overseeing the conversion of low-enriched uranium to weapons-grade fuel suitable for nuclear bombs. USA reporters were given limited access to the documents last week, and were briefed by Israeli officials. (Times of Israel)
COUNTRY’S RESIDENTS WORRY ABOUT IMPENDING BIG EARTHQUAKE: Israelis have expressed deep concern over a probable, massive earthquake expected to hit the country in the near future following a series of small tremors in the North. Speaking to residents from the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv areas, many expressed worry over the sturdiness of buildings, earthquake emergency plans and preparedness. Tour guide Samuel Green said that although he’s not concerned about a massive earthquake on a day-to-day basis, the fact that “we get a very big one every 100 years or so” and “we are definitely due” for another one, worries him. “It’s surprising to see a lack of public information and education about what to do in case of an earthquake – unlike the very good information about what to do in case of a rocket attack – and the lack of preparedness in the case of building regulations,” Green said. Yonah, from Tel Aviv, said that this constant “everything will be fine, don’t worry” attitude has to change if the country is going to deal with a big earthquake adequately. “Thousands could die and I don’t think enough precautions have been taken. This kind of an issue has been swept under the carpet because of all the conflicts we deal with on our border,” he said. “This has been forgotten.” (J.Post) “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14
DOZENS OF BRITISH RABBIS CALL OUT LABOUR PARTY ON ITS DEFINITION OF ANTI- SEMITISM: Sixty-eight British rabbis signed an open letter decrying anti-Semitism in the country’s Labour Party and calling on the party to accept the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism. In a rare united position, rabbis ranging from ultra-progressive to haredi Orthodox signed on to the letter. Labour’s national executive committee was set to meet on Tues. 18 July 2018 to approve the party’s new code of conduct, which will include a softened version of the alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism. Labour under Jeremy Corbyn, a hard-left politician who has called Hezbollah and Hamas his “friends” and who is fighting accusations of harboring anti-Semitic sentiments, has come under intense scrutiny in the media over anti-Semitic rhetoric by its members. In 2016, an interparliamentary committee accused Labour of creating a “safe space for those with vile attitudes towards Jewish people.” Dozens were kicked out over anti-Semitic statements. However, the party has kept on many Labour members whom Jewish community leaders said engaged in anti-Semitic hate speech. In recent months, Corbyn for the first time has encountered protests over his party’s anti-Semitism problem during work visits abroad. (JTA)
ISRAEL TRANSFERS AID TO SYRIANS DISPLACED BY FIGHTING: The IDF last week transferred aid donated by Israeli residents of the Golan Heights to Syrians displaced by fighting on the other side of border and living in camps. The aid included toys, crayons, games, candies, and notes from Israeli children. The IDF has recently transferred to Syrians displaced by fighting on the Golan Heights 130 tons of food, 12.5 tons of baby food, 75,700 liters of fuel to operate generators, 20 units of medical equipment, 77 tons of clothing, and 556 tents. Lt.-Col. E., commander of the aid operations, said that in recent years those living on the Syrian Golan Heights "have understood that the only country that has aided them was the same one they feared." (J.
